Day Camp Newsletter

Dear Parents and Children,

I can’t believe this is the eighth week and the summer is over. Each and every year I reflect on summers past. Each year I look back on the experiences of every camper and staff member and each summer I experience sadness because I have to say goodbye to another year at Jay’s Camp. This is the twenty-sixth year of Jay’s Camp and after each year I can’t wait until the next summer of fun, friendship, and good times. This year is no exception. I am committed to making next summer the best summer your children will ever experience. Each and every year I add a new and exciting piece of equipment to my camp. This year we added a state of the art miniature golf course, expanded our outdoor stadium, and upgraded our climbing tower and obstacle course. Next year we will have more special programs and activities to my camp.

Early Enrollment for 2011: On or about Sept. 15th, each Jay’s camper family will receive registration and information forms for next summer. The early discounts in October will be substantial; making Jay’s the most competitively priced camp on the North Shore. This year, the size of your deposit will reflect on your final balance which will no doubt be extremely attractive to you. Also, keep in mind that if you refer a new camper to Jay’s Camp, you will receive financial consideration. These discounts will save you a lot of money and I hope you take advantage of it. The biggest and more creative discounts will be the “October Early Discount”.

E-Mail: Please check your e-mail for special information during the year.

I wish all of my campers and their family a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2011 and I look forward to seeing all of my Jay’s Campers smiling faces next summer. Thank you for the loan of your child and for your confidence in my program. Until next year, I leave you with these thoughts:

Oh where or where has the Summer gone

I can’t believe that this week is the last.

Sports, Swimming, Drama, Dance, Special Programs and more

The Carnival was really a blast!

Day Camp, Sports Camp, Sac, Tweens and CIT’s

Are the units of this special place.

And everything we do has just one goal

To put a smile on your camper’s little face.

For four or eight weeks we bonded together

With fun and the happiest of days.

And boys and girls, know they are so special

At this amazing place called Jay’s.

With a lump in my throat

I’ll say good bye

As I wipe away my tears.

It’s only 10 months; I just can’t wait

To see you at Jay’s next year.

Fondly,

Jay

DAY CAMP NEWSLETTER – WEEK EIGHT

Dear Day Campers, Parents and Families,

It is hard to believe that Summer 2010 has come and gone so quickly! It seems like just yesterday that I was meeting all of my new Day Campers at parent orientation. I am so unbelievably proud of each and every child for its amazing accomplishments throughout the summer. Each Day Camper has tried their hardest in all of their many activities, they have passed to high levels in swimming, they have reached the very top of the climbing tower, they have tried new games and activities, and they have learned how to be great friends and team players. We have had a blast together each day, and I will miss all of the children dearly.

The theme for our eighth week of camp was Nature. On Monday we read a story about a tiny seed that grows to be a giant plant.  We learned that in order for a plant to grow, it needs soil, water, and plenty of sunlight. After our story, we decorated plant holders and planted our own seeds to grow beautiful flowers. This week we also went on nature walks through the woods. We found special rocks to make our own “pet rocks” that we painted and decorated.

To celebrate another fun-filled Day Camp summer coming to an end, we had our End-of-the-Summer Luau and Beach Day on Wednesday. The Day Campers had a fabulous time at all of the special activities, including the sandcastle-building contest, searching for seashells on our very own “beach,” learning to hula dance, surfing, limbo, crafts, Hawaiian treats, etc. We had so much fun in the sun!

I am so sad to say goodbye to all of my amazing Day Campers. It truly was an unforgettable summer, and we had such fun together. My staff and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts for lending us your incredible children for the past eight weeks. We will miss your children so much, and we cannot wait to see them back at Jay’s next summer for more fun together!!

HAVE AN AMAZING SCHOOL YEAR, DAY CAMPERS! SEE YOU NEXT SUMMER!!

NICK’S MARSHMALLOWS

Unfortunately eight weeks have come to an end here at Jay's Camp, but what a remarkable summer it's been. Lasting memories have been made, as we have all come to make new friends and one big family. We have had a great time together and we have enjoyed events like carnival day, the Olympics, and Wild West day. We have seen many accomplishments and achievements from all the kids at camp. Chase A and Micah A, the dynamic duo, is a pair of brothers that dominate when assigned to the same team. This week we had the brothers play defense at Jay's stadium for a hockey game. The two of them did not let the ball nor any opposing player past them. These two brothers should be a fun duo to watch as they grow. Another versatile aspiring athlete goes by the name of David N. This man can do it all, but what I enjoy watching the most is David playing basketball. A dominating force that can shoot the ball from anywhere on the court, not only is David a great athlete but a great dancer, with a great sense of humor. Last but not least we have Sam R who was a great friend to have in the group. Sam knew how to be a leader, a loyal friend, and someone who always knew how to get a laugh out of the group. It is sad to see this week coming to an end, but what a great adventure it was. I wish all these young boys good luck in kindergarten and future success. These are all phenomenal children who I feel lucky to have met. Thank you for such a memorable summer, and I hope to see every one of them next year at Jay's Camp!

MIKE’S RAINBOW DRAGONS

Hello parents and campers welcome to week eight and unfortunately it is the final week here at Jay's Camp. The weather has given us a couple of scares early in the mornings, but the sun has found it’s way though the clouds. Although it is the last week, not all things are looking down. There has been a select group of young gentleman this week that have each stood out in their own way. Camper Jake L. blew me away with his outstanding swimming skills. He spent more time underwater then above! On Tuesday, The Dragons had the project of finding and decorating a pet rock. Mr. David K. not only found the biggest and coolest looking rock, but he took the most time to perfect the design and his rock turned out to be the most elaborate! And finally Camper Brandon F. really took advantage of Wednesday's theme of superhero day. He was wearing Spiderman sunglasses, shirt, shoes and maybe even shorts! I didn't see any logo, but they sure were red, you could just see how excited he was all day long. Sadly I have to say goodbye to all the new friends I have made over these short four weeks. I hope these nice guys find their way back here at Jay's next summer because I know I sure will! Thanks for the memories guys!

DC GIRLS – Kindergarten

JORI’S BUMBLEBEES

Wow, I cannot believe the summer has come to an end. During these last few days of camp we have tried to do as many fun activities as we could. We made awesome crafts and enjoyed swimming on these hot, hot days! It was also Hawaiian day on Wednesday! The campers got to have a sand castle building contest, look for seashells, and even learn to surf. The girls have also enjoyed dancing a lot this summer and Lauren R. has shown off some great dance moves! It has been an incredible eight weeks working with all of your girls. We met so many new friends and got to do some amazing activities. I hope you all had a great summer here at Jay’s Camp, and I look forward to seeing you all again next summer! For those of you going off to kindergarten, good luck and have a great time! I hope you all have a great year!

DC BOYS – 1ST GRADE

RYAN’S WHITE SOX

It's week 8 and camp is sadly coming to an end. It has been a great year and we are sad to say goodbye to all of our friends. This week, Evan Z did a fantastic job and he moved up from red to blue in swimming. Jack P scored three goals in hockey this Monday and then followed that performance up with another three-goal game! Mitchell R moved from red to blue in swim while also scoring two goals in soccer. Thanks for such a fun summer, White Sox! Have a great school year!

COLLIN’S CHICAGO BULLS

It has finally come campers!! The last and final week at Jay’s Camp. This summer has been so much fun we have lost track of time. We have had all campers from the Chicago Bulls having fun and striving to be successful. This week Ryan L has shown great courage in the climbing wall. There was nothing standing in Ryan’s way this week for the climbing wall. He knew he wanted to get to the top, and he was going to let nothing stand in his way, and guess what? Ryan climbed to the top this week with flying colors.  Ryan has showed great improvement through out his time at Jay’s Camp, and it has really paid off. He wanted to get to the top, and that was what he did. If Ryan can keep this potential up he is going to be successful at any obstacle that stands in his way.   Also Daniel K this week showed that he is a kickball star. During our kickball game this week Daniel not only hit a home run, but also contributed to getting his opponents out. Daniel has turned into the athletic star while at Jay’s Camp, and if he can keep this up no sport is going to be a problem for Daniel. Our last and final week has been an amazing week. Unfortunately it has to come to an end, but I know it is going to be the summer again in no time, and each and every one of the Chicago Bulls will hopefully be returning to have more fun at Jay’s Camp. This summer has been very fun for me, and has been a privilege to work with such great campers. I hope to see them all return next year and ready to have fun at Jay’s Camp.

DC GIRLS – 1ST GRADE

ALLI’S CUPCAKES

This summer has gone by so fast! I can't believe our last week is already over! We did so many fun activities this week to top of an amazing summer! Zosia P. painted a very tricky puzzle that she made in pottery, and Julia S. made everyone laugh during our games in drama! We also took a trip to Hawaii this week where the Cupcakes learned to hula dance and surf! We all had a lot of fun in the sun! Autumn B. made a gorgeous picture frame with seashells and flowers, while Rachel L. showed off her flexibility in the limbo contest! All of the Cupcakes enjoyed some Hawaiian punch and worked as a team to build a sand castle! It has been an awesome summer, and we have made some great memories together! I'm going to miss every one of my girls but I wish them the best of luck in first grade and I hope to see them again next summer!
